Lake is continually flooding over perimeter containment wall even during the dry season, killing the grass. Lake regularly floods our neighborhood when it rains hard. Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 Residents DO NOT want our lake perimeter expanded as currently planned & without ANY community input. We want a SMALLER lake that will accommodate LESS water birds, and MORE GRASS for PEOPLE. We DO NOT want our neighborhood park to be utilized as a flood control basin any more. We want our soggy, city-created-wetlands neighborhood to be de-watered like the rest of the city. We want WORKING storm drains, more grass & A SMALLER BIRD MENACE LAKE. Increasing the permiter of the current flood control basin in our neighborhood is a non-starter for residents. "Parks Make Life Better"....for PEOPLE Not for flood control. Not for birds. FOR PEOPLE. |
9-30-2025 Water elevation sensor ordered |
Recommended short term solution: Lake pump TIMER
must be augmented with a water elevation sensor (float switch) that
activates the pump before the lake overflows. Recommend final solution: Replace existing 18” Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) with new 57” RCP and connect it to the existing 63" RCP storm drain near the catch basin at the southeast corner of McFadden & Golden West and extend it west on McFadden, beneath Golden West to manhole 149MHL002. Replace existing 18” Vitrified Clay Pipe (VCP) with 48” RCP from manhole 149MHL002 south to catch basin 149CBN005 & then a 36” RCP from 149CBN005 to grate drains 149GRT004 & 149GRT005. Replace existing 8” (VCP) with 48” RCP from manhole 149MHL002 east to manhole 149MHL001 southwest to manhole 149MHL004 south to catch basin 149CBN004. Replace existing 6” cast iron pipe with 36” RCP from catch basin 149CBN004 to grate drains 149GRT002 & 149GRT003. Replace unknown pipe from manhole 149MHL001 to grate drain 139GRT001. Disconnect the existing 18” RCP lake drain pump pipe from the existing “Y” connector and run a new 18” RCP to connect to the 63” RCP just downstream from the catch basin located at the southeast corner of McFadden & Golden West. Replace existing 18” RCP from inlet 149ILT001 to manhole 149 MHL002 so it will function as a gravity lake-overflow but will still allow a limited amount of water to enter the lake during heavy rain conditions. (pipe sizes may require size adjustments upon expert analysis) If this gravity drain system is not feasible then a new lift station would be best positioned on the high ground at the northwest corner of the park. volume of
water entering the lake at the 18" reinforced concrete inlet pipe at
the
NE end of the lake (149ILT001) even during the dry season. 30% of
lake water being pumped out of the lake is returning to the lake at Inlet 149ILT001. Pic 1 Vid 1 |
A temporary inflatable bladder was installed at inlet ILT001 on 11-21-25 (the day AFTER the great flood of 2025) |
Temporarily install a inflatable bladder to prevent pumped lake water from re-entering the lake. | Bladder use began on 11-21-2025 (the day AFTER the great flood of 2025) |

| 3-1-2024 | Subsided soil from repeated flooding has created low spots which pool water and kill the grass. Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 | NO CHANGE | Re-grade the park back to its "as designed" state with a maintained slope so that all soil slopes TOWARD the lake at all times without any low spot ponding. Soil should NEVER be lower than the top of the water basins containment wall. | UNKNOWN | UNKNOWN |

It turns out the current sign was a Eagle Scout Project so it is highly unlikely any changes would even be considered. |

| 3-1-2024 | Excessive volume of large bird feces is everywhere rendering the park unsanitary & unusable FOR PEOPLE. Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 | Sidewalks were cleaned once but is not enough due to the vast number of birds constantly being illegally fed at the park | Attracting and maintaining large flocks of large birds such as geese, ducks, mudhens and seaguls results in a large amout of feces. This in turn requires a large amout of maintiance to keep clean and safe FOR PEOPLE |
Increase maintience until the park can be made less inviting to birds by reducing illegal feeding with new signs warning of stiff fines for feeding & preventing lake flooding. Designate Park to be a off-leash dog training area to discourage the birds from loitering. |
